8mm film revolutionized home movies. It was less expensive than the 16mm film in use at the time and became affordable for many families. However, the actual image on the film was very small.

The largest possible image size for most cameras was 5.1x3.8 mm. A 35mm slide image is about 45 times greater than the 8mm film image. A 640x480 image from an 8mm film would be equivalent to a 4520x3010 image from a 35mm slide.

Also, the quality of a typical lens on the 8mm movie cameras was not sufficient to produce a sharp image at a resolution of 640x480 except under ideal conditions.

Our standard output resolution is 1440x1080 pixels which is suitable to capture the information in most 8mm films.
